Manual Description:

There are a few varieties of the Elite, but all are roughly 8' 6" tall and incredibly strong. Their strength allows them to rely on brute force when necessary, but they're quite capable of brilliant battlefield tactics as well. Their natural resilience is augmented with full-body energy shielding which recharges when depleted. They wield plasma pistols, plasma rifles, grenades and needlers.

Without a doubt the most difficult-to-combat enemy in Halo. Elites are the cream of the Covenant crop: fast, strong, durable and smart. They will pilot vehicles and pull slick maneuvers you'd swear were scripted; they'll box you in and charge when your shields are down, yet hide back when their own are depleted. As stated by the manual, there are a number of kinds of Elites. Blue are the most common, red less so, and gold the least of all - but by far the most deadly. Gold elites are an enemy all their own. Also, you'll occasionally encounter invisible Elites, and even a few wielding plasma swords. Be careful out there.
