The Needler returns from Halo: Combat Evolved in an improved, more deadly form. Currently the needler is able to be dual-wielded. The needles track their target and explode upon impact; several needles that hit their mark can cause an enormous explosion, often setting off a chain reaction with any fallen grenades nearby.

Needlers can be reloaded with needler ammunition, unlike most other Covenant weapons.
