Technology Update (July 24, 2001)

Return to article listing.

The technology world has been wrought with layoffs, cutbacks, and low prices lately, but their R&D seemingly has not suffered.

A special highlight this week is a touchscreen game controller. (Something I've been thinking about designing for quite some time, but with a much wider purpose for it.) Slashdot.org posted an article a while back proclaiming this new innovation. got|apex? (weird domain name) posted a review on Massworks' ID-75. (They ought to fire the webmaster.) At $299, I honestly don't think it'll catch on very fast as a game controller (or a low-res LCD display, though I may get it just for that ^_^). It's programmable, and seems very useful, but would kill you in a FPS firefight. You never want to look away from the monitor to push a button.

As a little treat, I'll be posting the latest prices on critical memory and the latest and greatest CPU's. I'll even include a link to the retailer that carries it and the change in price from the last week. So let's get started, eh? (Prices shown are in US funds.)

WARNING: Some of these prices may shock you, leave you breathless, make you sick, get out your wallet, or something else dangerous or drastic in some way. The Junkyard is not responsible for your actions.
