Someone wanted to be anal, so I'll clarify a few points:

3D Labs put the proposal forward almost 2 years ago. Yes, I was aware of that. The ARB has always been slow. Hence my use of the phrase "Real Soon Now" in the title. OpenGL 2.0's biggest-touted feature is OGLSL, the shader language that complements DX9's HLSL. However, OpenGL 2.0 as a whole has a fully programmable pipeline. Its extensions reach far byond just the shader language extensions. The architecture is virtually re-done. Lastly, the reason I said "We are currently at 1.4" is because in practise, most available OpenGL implementations do not yet support OpenGL 1.5, the current specification, and so isn't really "available."

Sorry for any confusion. (And another note: I do have an email address for comments.)
