Another first person account of Tribes: Vengeance has hit the web. Michael 'Perrin' Hendry has submitted his hands-on preview of the latest installment in the series. This review seems to be more reassuring than previous accounts claiming that the physics were way off. The only main problem Perrin had with the game was that with the shield pack:

Ahhhh, this was going to be easy. Mortar 1 lands right by him. The blast sends him flying, but he's still fine. Shrugging I step back and fire in rapid succession. 2,3,4,5,6, and 7 bounces back and I get caught a bit in the blast, as his teammates swarm over me finally having decided that I was indeed not a delivery guy. As I started complaining loudly about the lack of death to their flag carrier, the man beside informed me he must have had a shield pack. To which I replied "I don't care if he's got 30 stacked shield packs and was covered in mortar-off, 6 mortars should have torn through him. The response was that he thinks the shield pack can stop up to 75% damage. That I just shook my head at, it's got to go. 2 hits from a mortar fine. but 6 hits in there, and he's still living? Especially since medium is the new armor of the masses, that's gotta change.
Luckily alterations can be made to the shield pack's power by simply replacing a few numbers. Comments >>
