An interesting thread appeared on the Starsiege:2845 forums yesterday. A community member posed the question if you'll be able to choose your name and squad in SS:2845. Today, ConfigSys.boy! responded saying no. Unlike the original Starsiege where you had a lot of lenience in your character's placement in the story, in SS:2845, you will have a lot less say in your character's... character. The writing team felt that role you played in the original weakened the story and player immersion. Config explains the role you'll play in SS:2845:

...you will play an actual character in our campaign. (Three characters in fact.) A living, breathing part of the universe who you will get to know and with whom you will empathize. We feel that this decision will help players become more attached to and involved in the story as it unfolds. It also gives us more room to provide the player with concrete details regarding setting and relationships with other characters in the story, thus contributing further to the immersion factor.
But is this a good thing? Personally, I liked playing the de-protagonized character in the original - I liked being a Duster. Let us know what you think!
