 Warcry talks Competition
Fri Jul 9th, 2004 Posted by: at 16:54 PM
The crew at Warcry looked at the other side of Tribes: Vengeance, asking what the major third-party contendors were going to bring to the table. Both TribalWar and Team Warfare are in preparation to open separate Tribes: Vengeance Competition Ladders. Neither of these ladders will be a simple, constant battle for top place but will run in seasons ending with a closed tournament to determine the top clan. As an example, here's what Tribalwar has planned: “TribalWar has been working on a ladder/league system for about 6 months now.” Colosus told me. “Every single portion of it is custom built and designed to specifically for the Tribes games. No longer are administrators going to be arbitrarily chosen from the community for how much they suck up to the owner of the site or how good of a player they are. The day to day administration of the ladders and leagues will be performed by professional, dedicated, unbiased employees of HomeLAN (our hosting company and partner).” The TribalWar team is clearly mapping out their plans for a more professional but still communal system. “Any decisions requiring arbitration, appeal or rule/map changes will be handled by a council of elected officials from the community. We have created a democratic administration system. The council size changes depending on the number of teams on the ladder. All council members must be nominated, seconded, run a campaign and then be voted on by the players of the ladder. We’ve even included an impeachment process should a council member not be doing his/her job.” Sounds like a local planning meeting at city hall, doesn’t it? He also explained the gameplay focus saying, “Along with the democratic administration system, we’ve decided to go with a full hybrid system for the ladder. The hybrid is run like a ladder for a specific amount of time and then at the end of the “season”, the top 16 teams are locked from challenges and are seeded into a bracket system to determine the winner. The ladder is re-seeded based on the outcome of the tournament. The reason we decided to go with this system is because of how stale the top 10 gets after playing on a ladder for a while. Timing your challenges can be tough and you get sick of playing the same teams over and over again. With this new system, you’re guaranteed to play everyone in the top 16 and proving whether you’re worthy of getting that number one spot.”
