IGN has posted an article called "Xbox 2: What We Know" on all the current information about the upcoming Xbox 2 console (obviously). While part one is mainly a list of what IGN hopes to see, part two of the article is more hard facts. According to IGN's sources, the Xbox 2 will use an IBM processor, possibly a version of the PowerPC 970 (aka G5). This raises the question of backwards compatibility, since the Xbox runs an x86 processor. However, Microsoft did recently acquire Connectix, the makers of VirtualPC, a PC emulator for Mac. I've used VirtualPC, and when configured correctly, it can actually run quite fast. This technology could be used for Xbox 2 emulation. Other facts include that the Xbox 2 will have ATI video cards, beefed specs all around, including more RAM and a larger hard drive, and possibly wireless built in. Check the article out, it's a pretty good read, and if IGN posts part 3 we'll be sure and tell you here.

Thanks to rampancy.net for the heads up.
