The graphics in Halo still are able to hold their own today. Some of the scenic landscapes in the levels are quite beautiful. But it's not like most people to fire up Halo just to show off some pretty pictures; chances are if you're starting up Halo Mac, PC or Xbox, you'll be wanting to play.

As a result, after the first Keanu-like "Woah" of delight because the game's graphics are darn pretty, many gamers don't have or take the time to look back at some of the scenery in Halo. To that extent, The Junkyard wants to make Halo's graphics more available to the hardened gamers who've "seen it all". Wouldn't it be cool to have your favourite multiplayer level or come face to face with a Hunter every time you look at your desktop?

"Sure," you might be thinking, "I can do that on my own. All I need to do is press PrintScreen in Halo, then convert the image, then set it as my desktop!" Yes -- but then the Heads-Up Display would get in your way, would it not?

To save viewers the trouble of applying patches to de-HUD Halo, convert images, or strain your videocard's vertex shaders, we're making images available from Halo PC to all viewers in ~1600x1200, JPEG format in our gallery.

Thanks goes to XLNC from the HBO forums for really getting HUD-less images off to a great start; you can view some original HUD-less images here or, if you're inclined to taking screenshots yourself, you can read XLNC's brief tutorial. If you think your screenshots would make great wallpaper, you can send them to us. If we agree, we'll add them to our collection!

As of this writing, there are eight wallpapers available for your perusal. More will be added in the coming days; for now, isn't it time you changed that boring background of yours? ;)
