In the age of Mydoom, Melissa and LovSan viruses, it's important that users take some time to deal with network security. Whether you're on a 56K modem to broadband with an ungodly transfer rate, a fresh install of Windows on an insecure connection just screams "Infect me!"

For those gamers who prefer playing games to muddling with firewalls, I've written an article regarding setting up network security, specifically focusing on Windows XP. The information in the article can be applied to any version of Windows, however, and offers general network and softwall -- software firewall -- advice.
